Umbria- Self Guided

A walking tour of Umbria which allows you to appreciate both the natural beauties of this area and its artistic treasures as it passes by the main centers and towns of this very special region.

Day 1- Arrival to Perugia, the capital of Umbria

Day 2 – Valfabbrica / Assisi
Transfer from Perugia to the tour start. The beginning is a bit tough but then it becomes easier.
Rolling hills and thick woods are followed by a breathtaking view of Assisi. The bais within the walking distance from your hotel. You can relax in the hotel pool at the end of the day.

Day 3 - Assisi /Assisi
A relaxing day. If you want to walk you can have a 3 hours loop. Have a brisk departure by climbing to the Eremo delle Carceri, St. Francis peaceful retreat. At the top of the trail 500 meters from the Eremo there is a nice picnic spot with tables and benches. The other option is just visiting the town of Assisi, which has a lot more to offer than the St Francis Basilica.

Day 4- Assisi / Spello
Start from your hotel and walk a trail which cuts through the Subasio Park and unfolds among olive groves to reach Spello, a lovely village with cobbled streets and peaceful squares. There are less tourists than in Assisi here!

Day 5– Spello / Trevi
Today you hike on a trail that cuts deep into an inner valley in the direction of the Appenino mountains. You will be in a very untouched area with oak woods and olive trees. You will spend the night in the slepy village of Trevi which remined unchanged since the Mediaval times. It is also the centre of the best olive producers in Umbria, or even Italy!

Day 6 – Trevi / Bevagna
After the breakfast you continue walking through romantic olive groves, passing by clusters of old houses, churches and watch towers until you get to a charming spot Le Fonti del Clitunno. The spot is close to Spoleto where your driver will collect you and bring you to the hotel in Bevagna.

Day 7 – Bevagna / Bevagna
A loop in the heart of the best wine area of Umbria. After visiting Bevagna which is known for its medieval market during the month of June walk from Bevagna to Montefalco, have lunch at the enoteca on Montefalco main square, sample some wine at one of the best wineries of the area and come back to your starting point .

Day 8- Departure day; transfer to Foligno railway station from where you can take direct trains to either Rome or Florence.
