This tour follows the trail of the long range international
walking path connecting Mt. Triglav with Obersdorf in Germany.
In Slovenia it starts at Mt. Triglav, follows Valley of
Sava River and later ridges of Karavanke Range and Stone
Alps. If you like alpine scenery and natural monuments of
a different kind then this is the right tour for you!
Day
1 - Arrival to Jezersko
This small romantic village is situated on Slovene –
Austrian border, north of Ljubljana. Its setting in a basin
among peaks of Stone Alps makes it a perfect starting point
for this trip.
Day 2 - Jezersko
to Jezersko
A warm-up hike to Ceska koca mountain hut. The walk leads
up just above forest line to a one of the oldest alpine
huts in Slovenia. You will return passing Shepherds Lake.
Day 3 - Jezersko to Preddvor
A longer hike down to valley. Today’s walk begins
with a short transfer to the starting point. Following a
narrow valley one ascend to Baseljsko Sedlo, just before
reaching a mountain hut on Kokra saddle. This is a wonderful
viewpoint and a great setting for a tasty lunch. The afternoon
walk descends through hillside villages to Preddvor and
past Crnava Lake to our hotel.
Day
4 - Preddvor - surroundings
of Trzic
A walk in western direction takes you across several typical
villages of the area, wide meadows of alpine flowers dotted
with famous Slovene hay-drying racks. Trzic used to be a
town of shoemakers, should you need new walking shoes -
plenty of choice there. The walks goes at the foot of Karawanke
range, in distance Julian Alps peaks are visible.
Day
5 - Trzic - Begunje
A short car transfer to the border
and starting point at Ljubelj. A bit unusually the hike
begins by a short underground walk through a tunnel, once
dug to shorten the merchants’ route connecting Carniola
with Carinthia. Continuing towards west if follows the trails
of shepards’, passing wide meadows of alpine flowers.
Walking through quiet valley of Draga, underneath ruins
of ancient Kamen castle, one reaches Begunje – home
of famous Avseniki musicians.
Day 6
- Begunje - Bled
This is an easy day walk. Leaving Begunje one first climbs
to little St. Petrus church, in days of Turkish raids an
important sentry point. A longer ridge walk follows, with
great views of Julian Alps range on the opposite Sava valley
side. Before reaching Bled, there is time to explore Vintgar
gorge – a canyon of River Radovna, part of Triglav
National park.
