An enriching and scenically
rewarding 3 day / 2 night guided walking holiday in lush
cork forests surrounded by gorgeous mountain terrain and
babbling streams. The walks tend to connect the remote white
villages of the sierras while baggage is conveniently delivered
to the hotel. A great introduction to walking holidays with
a load of culture, history, wildlife and good times thrown
in!
DAY 1: Arrive
in Casares - Distance: 7-10 km / Easy
We meet in the sea side town of Estepona and then transport
by mini bus up to Casares village where we begin our first
walk in this lovely countryside. Emphasis today is on the
wide variety of wild flowers, herbs, bird life and the strong
Moorish influence on the region.
DAY 2: Benarraba - Distance: 8 km
/ Easy to Moderate
Keeping with the tradition of inspiring walks and maximum
scenery, we begin today's adventure by descending a path
of age-old stones put in place hundreds of years before.
The route, likely an earlier smuggler's path is still used
today by goat herders and villagers alike. Our journey then
takes us to the peaceful and untouched Artisan village of
Genalguacil. Here we will enjoy a tapas lunch and relaxation
before we return to our base - the Arabic village of Benarraba.
Our second night will be spent at Javi & Mercedes gorgeous
mountain hotel with its pool, gardens and very tasty meals!
DAY 3: Distance: 8-10 km / Easy to
Moderate
Our final day and one of the finest walks in the history
of the entire region. This morning we set off on the traditional
path leading to the great plains of Grazalema National Park.
One of Spain's own heritage routes, this ancient path dates
back to Phoenician times and was made famous as a bandit
stronghold for 200 years. An excellent place for spotting
birds of prey (one with a wing span of 3m)!
